EPA's role in all of this will surely make for some challenging times. We all must transform as the market dictates us in providing affordable replacements parts and services for these engines and their permanent magnet alternator (PMA) counterparts. Diesel engines will be more popular with the new low sulfur fuels being EPA mandated for consumption. PMA's will be applied to any powered rotational axis; the engine shaft, driveshaft, wheels, braking and even the cooling fan. Most of these "new" technologies are actually old technologies, with some exceptions of course. The diesel's of old ran on oil, plant crops and waste as some today are calling 'flex-fuel'.
